Language Immersion

What is and what is not effective language immersion?

Surely you have already heard about the great benefits of language immersion, but do you know exactly what it is all about? Many people believe that it is learning a language by travelling to the country where it is spoken. This is definitely a great help! But how many foreigners do you know in your country who spend years living there and only know a couple of words in your language? Clearly just living in a place where the language you want to learn is spoken will not make you bilingual. Do you want to know how you can achieve it, wherever it is you live? On this page we explain how our learning programs are designed to make your language immersion experience truly effective.

IT'S NOT JUST EXPOSURE

Today there is a wide range of online courses that offer you materials and videos to learn a language. However, to learn in this way it would take years to make some progress and it is an unnatural method since no one learns to speak just by listening if they do not have the opportunity to communicate.

IT IS EXPOSURE + INTERACTION

For linguistic immersion to be effective, it should clearly include language exposure activities, but above all, opportunities for you to interact with other people and to be able to practise what you are learning. At IFLI our programs combine these two essential pieces to ensure that learning is effective.

IT'S NOT 2 OR 3 TIMES A WEEK

Most of us who have learned a language in an academy are used to class times being at least twice a week. At that rate it is normal that it takes us longer than we would like to be able to have a decent conversation with someone in the foreign language. Homework is essential because if not the 2-3 hours per week of learning would not be enough to consolidate knowledge.

IT IS EVERY DAY

At IFLI we want your learning to be unlimited in days or hours. We want you to see that every day you can learn something new and not limit your progress to the moments when you are with a teacher. We will help you create the right environment around you so that you feel the immersion whether or not you are living in a foreign country. You will really feel the difference. Before, "you had to study" and with us you will simply "learn".

IT IS NOT RIGID

Most online language learning courses currently are conventional and conservative. They offer courses of X months, have deadlines, enrollment and commitments. The materials, which are already prepared and with static content, are offered to all students equally over and over again. Unfortunately, many times it is this rigidity that over time ends up demotivating students. Have you already been through this?

IT IS FLEXIBLE

Our language immersion programs offer you the flexibility to interact in the language you want to learn on a daily basis. Our proposal is that you participate in varied, dynamic, original, entertaining activities, planned with all learning styles in mind and adapted to your needs and those of your group. You decide when you start and when you finish. No deadlines, no stress and progressing day by day.

IT IS NOT TO DO ALONE

Definitely the goal of learning a language will never be to be able to speak it while looking in the mirror, don't you think? So what is the point of living this experience alone and on your own? Private lessons can help when it comes to achieving a very specific, concrete goal. However, if you really want to master a language, you have to be prepared to open up to the world and communicate with other people. .

IT IS TO SHARE WITH OTHERS

Why do you want to learn a language? I can't imagine an answer without somehow involving communicating with someone, either orally or in writing. At IFLI you will not be alone: you will be accompanied by our team of educators and also by all students who, like you, have grown tired of studying languages and have decided to trust us to live the language.

IT IS NOT ARTIFICIAL

If you have ever learned a language in the conventional way, it has surely happened to you to come to class one day and to be told "Today we are going to learn the past simple." Can you imagine a mother saying to her baby: today we are going to learn the verb 'to have'? Although we adults have the ability to acquire knowledge in this way, the reality is that grammar-based learning has proved to many people to be meaningless and short-term.

IT'S AUTHENTIC

Whether you are in a foreign country or not, our mission is that you feel immersed in the language you are learning, and of course, also its culture. The content of the activities in the different programs will aim to develop specific linguistic skills in real interaction situations - depending on your level - so that learning is meaningful. The real world will not happen when you are not studying. You will be learning the language in the real world.
